Our Story
I Can Do That! (ICDT) was founded in May 2011 by two directors with a shared vision: to provide personalised, one-to-one support that helps people overcome barriers and move forward in life. We began as a 50+ Work Club, offering advice and guidance to help older adults return to work or self-employment. Since then, we have expanded our services to all working-age groups and widened our geographical coverage.
Our Mission
Our guiding principle is simple: Helping others to help themselves.
We believe long-term success comes from giving people the skills, knowledge, and confidence to continue their progress independently. Our mentors focus on:
Identifying and removing barriers to progression
Equipping individuals with tools and strategies to achieve their goals
Building lasting confidence through encouragement and guidance
Our Growth
What began in Torbay has now expanded to:

Teignbridge

South Hams

Exeter and surrounding areas

Tiverton
Today, we deliver projects and provisions on behalf of:
-
The Department for Work & Pensions (Jobcentre)
-
Local Authorities
-
The NHS
-
Major grant funders such as The National Lottery Community Fund
Responding to Community Needs
In 2023, we became a Debt Advice Centre after seeing how the cost-of-living crisis was impacting our participants. While not a walk-in service, this support is available to anyone already engaged in one of our projects.
Quality & Standards
We are proud to hold both the Matrix Standard and Cyber Essentials Plus Certificate:
-
Matrix Standard – ensuring the advice we give is accurate, relevant, and of the highest quality, with customer feedback at the heart of continuous improvement.
-
Cyber Essentials Plus Certificate – guaranteeing strict data security protocols to keep all customer information safe.
Our Matrix assessor reports consistently highlight outstanding quality and customer satisfaction.
Why We Do What We Do
Our mission is to improve lives and, wherever possible, move people towards employment.
We believe employment plays a key role in:
Supporting mental and financial well-being
Providing structure and a sense of purpose
Boosting self-esteem and confidence
Offering social connection and interaction
At ICDT, we’re committed to creating equal opportunities that help people feel more secure, more capable, and more hopeful about the future.
